Customizing your User Profile

This guide covers some of the basic formatting for the About section of your user profile page.

Written by Ryan

If you want to add a bit more flair to your profile on Magma, we do have some basic formatting options that you can use.

Supported formatting options include:

  • bold

  • italics

  • strikethrough

  • embeded images

  • plain links

  • hyperlinked text

  • emojis

  • block quote

  • tagging others

How to do it...

Below are steps for how to achieve each of the formatting options

  • Bold

    For BOLD text, add two asterisks (**) before and after the text
    **TEXT** will result in TEXT.

  • Italics

    For italicised text, add one asterisk (*) before and after the text
    *TEXT* will result in TEXT.

  • strikethrough

    For strikethrough text, add two tilde (~) symbols before and after the text
    ~~TEXT~~

  • embeded images

    To add an image to your bio, you first need to host that image online and grab the link for it. You can do this with Magma by:
    1. Create a new canvas and import the image that you want displayed;
    2. Crop the canvas if needed;
    3. Tap the blue Share button in the top right and select Share as PNG;
    4. Copy the link/URL from your address bar or right-click/long-press and select Copy image address;

    Next go to your bio and use the following: ![space](Image link)
    Either use a space or text between the square brackets, and paste the link inside the round brackets.

    Example

     ![ ](https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSNfUG8GJzeTjgabrCR8sDSBFt5BWIsXotzhw&s)

    This will also work for GIFs but you'll have to use a different service, like GIPHY, to host these.

  • Plain links

    You can add regular links into your bio by simply copying and pasting the URL in. It will display the full link and be clickable.

  • Hyperlinked text

    For custom text for your link, first put the hyperlinked text in square brackets, followed the website link inside round brackets.
    For example. [TEXT](awebsitelink.com)

  • emojis

    We also support emojis in the body of your About section. You can either use these directly from your keyboard or copy them from Emojipedia.

  • block quote

    While we do not yet support bullet and numbered list formatting, block quotes could be an alternative. Simply add a right angled bracket (>) at the start of your line.

    Block quotes will ignore any other styling options for that line.

  • Tagging others

    To tag others, you will need their user name. Like other platforms, type @ followed by the username. The username is the blue identifying text with the @ symbol. This is not to be confused with the displayname.

Everything mentioned above can also be used in your Gallery post descriptions and your Art Jam descripttions. One exception is the embeded image.
