Every registered Magma user can now have a public profile with more information about them. On top of that, you can also follow other artists and passionate doodlers on the platform, making it easier to get together on the canvas again in future.
Your Public Profile
You can access your personal profile by tapping on your avatar in the top right corner and selecting User Profile. You also get a unique URL that you you can share with others to your profile. This is normally https://magma.com/artist/[uniqueusername].
The various things you can customize about your profile include:
Display name: this is the main name that is visible to others. It is limited to 32 characters and is different from your unique username;
The avatar: a profile picture that must be under 1MB in size;
User color: this is your preferred identifying color when joining canvases;
Website: paste a link to your portfolio site or social media page;
About me: a bio with a bit more details about who you are, what you like to draw, what inspires you, etc. You can also add website links here;
Banner image: displays on your profile and in the user tooltip.
You can add a certain degree of styling and customization to the About section of your profile which you can read more about in this guide.
Note: do NOT put any personal identifying information such as phone number or address in your Public Profile. Please make sure to follow our public profile guidelines.
You banner image dimensions are 1600 x 240 and must be under 6MB. You can use the zoom slider and the Fit or Cover buttons to adjust how you image is shown.
User Tooltips
User tooltips are usually displayed when hovering over their avatar and display name in various places of Magma. The tooltip will show:
the avatar;
the display name;
your unique username;
the custom banner;
your Blaze status;
the last four images posted to your user gallery
Following other users
Not only can you share your public profile, but people can also choose to follow you after seeing it. A blue Follow button appears in the place of the Edit button for other people's profiles.
You can also follow people that you recently drew with and who appear in the Recent list on your dashboard by tapping on the action menu and selecting the Follow option. People you follow will appear in your Following Activity panel on the right of your dashboard. you can show or hide this panel by tapping the user network icon next to your avatar.
When you follow another user, they will get a notification about it.
Your followers
Your followers will be able to see when you are online and if you are busy drawing. This is shown by white text (indicating you are online) and a little icon if you are currently drawing on a canvas.
When you are drawing privately, this will be shown to followers by the crossed out eye above the brush.
You can hide your online and activity status by going to the Privacy page of your Account and Billing settings.
Note: users will not be able to see where you are drawing, or access the canvas you are currently on unless you invite them.
Invite your followers
You can invite someone who follows you to your canvas by tapping the blue Invite button on your canvas, switching to the Followers tab, and selecting them from the list.
If they allow for canvas invitations, a blue invite will appear on their dashboard. We have place limits on the number of times that you can invite a person to a canvas to prevent excessive interruption when they might be busy on their own drawing elsewhere.
You can also open your drawing to be joined by followers by tapping on the Share button and then Allow followers to see and join. By default, on your Artdesk canvases, this setting is disabled. In public Art Jams, it is enabled.
If you are sharing your current drawing status and inviting people to join, either it will have the Art Jam icon or a brush with a + symbol, along with a live thumbnail.
Your Follow and Following lists
When viewing you're profile, you can see the full list of who you are following, and also who follows you.
To see this, open your profile and then tap on either the Followers or Following stats.
This opens a new window where you can see and search for people that list.
You can also see this when visiting other users' profiles.
Future update
This is just the beginning of the Public Profile and Following features. In future, we will make it possible to share updates, images, and canvas links with your network.
