When visiting Magma, it's recommended that you sign in or register for a free account. This ensures that you will always have access and remain the admin of the canvas that you create.

Add a new canvas from the dashboard

When you arrive at your dashboard after signing in or registering, you will have a few options visible for creating a new canvas.

Either tap the blue New canvas button to create a standard 1920 x 1080 canvas, or tap on the dropdown arrow to select from our various preset canvas sizes.

Create a custom canvas

You can also create a custom canvas with your preferred dimensions. There are a few different settings that you can adjust in the new window that appears:

  1. Location - decided where you want your new canvas to be created. This can be in an Artspace or your Artdesk, or even a specific folder within those;

  2. Name - title of your canvas;

  3. Size - width and height of your canvas in pixels;

  4. Background colour - dropdown of different options including transparent;

  5. Resolution - determine the pixel density of your canvas. Higher value leads to bigger file sizes;

  6. Password - Sets a password for the canvas. only for Blaze and Fusion users.

If you are in an Artspace and cannot create a new canvas, it is possible that the Artspace owner or Admin has limited the permissions for certain roles.

Add a new canvas from your current canvas

You can also create a new canvas directly from the canvas that you are on. There are two ways to do this:

The File Menu

Open the File menu in the top left to find your different options for adding a canvas

  1. New - Opens a window with various settings for your new canvas (as shown above);

  2. Quick New - create a new canvas with the same dimensions as your current canvas;

  3. Import as a new canvas - select an image from your device to upload. This opens the image as it's own canvas. This is different from importing a file ONTO your current canvas;

  4. Duplicate - creates a duplicate of your current canvas with all of it's layers.

The Sequence Panel

You can also add new canvases to sequence. All canvases in the sequence are linked so, if you open any one of them from your dashboard, you will have easy access to the others.

Open the sequence panel by tapping on the filmstrip icon in the bottom left.

You can either:

  1. Tap the big + symbol - adds a canvas of the same dimensions to the sequence.
    OR

  2. Tap the action menu icon in the corner of the empty panel and select one of the available options.

Add image will create a canvas of the same dimensions, Add custom image will open the new canvas settings window. Add existing image will let you paste the link of an existing canvas.

Important

After you create a canvas, we encourage you to spend time adjusting the permissions for the canvas before you share the link and invite others to draw with you.
